They say time flies when you’re doing something you love and it is indeed the truth. I can hardly believe it’s been 25 years since I started my career as a fashion designer.
To celebrate this milestone, I recently sat down for an interview to reflect on the last 25 years of my life!
When I first started designing clothes, I was inspired by the vibrant colours and textures of the world around me. From the hues of the sunset to the delicate textures of a butterfly wing, I am constantly drawing inspiration from the world around me. This approach allows me to create pieces that are not only beautiful but also meaningful and sustainable.
I have always loved to work with my hands so I started creating pieces that were hand-made and one-of-a-kind. I quickly developed a reputation for my bold use of colour and my intricate designs.
I believe that fashion can be a force for good and that we have a responsibility to create clothing that is ethically produced and environmentally friendly.
Over the years, my creative process has evolved. Now, I draw inspiration from everything, be it nature, art or culture. I am constantly experimenting with new materials and techniques to push the boundaries of what is possible in fashion. I love to mix and match unexpected combinations, creating looks that are both playful and sophisticated. It is an aesthetic that has become synonymous with my brand and one that I will always be proud of.
Of course, the fashion industry is not without its challenges and I have certainly faced my fair share over the years. But through it all, I have remained committed to staying true to my vision and creating designs that speak to who I am as a person and an artist. Whether it’s experimenting with new fabrics and textures or collaborating with other designers and artists, I am always looking for ways to push myself creatively and stay ahead of the curve.
In addition to my work as a designer, I am also deeply committed to philanthropy. For the past several years, I have been working with the Tata Memorial Hospital to raise awareness about cancer and provide support to those who are affected by it. As someone who has lost loved ones to this terrible disease, I am strongly committed to aiding others in any way possible. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience and I am proud to be able to use my platform as a designer to make a difference in the world.
Looking back on my 25 years as a designer, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and accomplishment. It has been an incredible journey filled with highs and lows but through it all, I have remained true to myself and my vision. I am excited to see where the next 25 years will take me and I am grateful for all the support and encouragement I have received along the way.
Here’s to the future!
