As a fashion designer, I find myself constantly seeking inspiration from the past, where the fashion world has been shaped by iconic individuals whose sense of style transcends time.

These fashion icons have left an indelible mark on the industry, setting trends that continue to influence designers and fashion enthusiasts even today.

In this blog, I invite you to take a journey through history and explore the captivating style of some of the most influential fashion icons of all time.

Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel revolutionised women’s fashion by liberating them from the constraints of corsets and introducing comfortable yet stylish garments. Her signature designs, such as the little black dress, tweed suits, and quilted handbags, have become staples in every fashion-conscious woman’s wardrobe.

Chanel’s timeless style and commitment to practicality have made her an eternal source of inspiration for designers seeking to create effortlessly chic looks.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe, a true epitome of beauty, captivated audiences with her magnetic personality and timeless style during the 1950s and early 1960s.

She seamlessly blended sensuality with elegance, leaving an unfading impression on the world of fashion.

Monroe’s wardrobe often consisted of figure-hugging pencil dresses, halter-neck gowns, and plunging necklines that accentuated her curves.

One particular style statement of hers that resonates with me was her use of faux fur in her ensembles, which added an aura of luxury and glamour to her looks.

Audrey Hepburn

No list of fashion icons would be complete without mentioning the timeless elegance of Audrey Hepburn.

Known for her refined and sophisticated style, Audrey epitomised grace and charm. Her little black dress in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” became an iconic symbol of understated chic.

Hepburn’s ability to effortlessly combine simplicity with sophistication continues to inspire fashion designers worldwide.

Princess Diana

Princess Diana captivated the world not only with her humanitarian efforts but also with her impeccable sense of style. From her glamorous gowns to her casual off-duty looks, Diana effortlessly combined timeless elegance with a touch of contemporary flair.

Her ability to mix high-end fashion with accessible pieces made her relatable and influential, making her an enduring fashion icon.

Iris Apfel

Iris Apfel, often referred to as the “Geriatric Starlet,” is a fashion icon who challenges ageism and celebrates individuality. With her signature oversized glasses and bold accessories, Apfel embraces maximalism like no other.

Her fearless approach to fashion reminds designers to step out of their comfort zones and embrace their unique style.


Madonna, the Queen of Pop, has been an influential force in the music and fashion industries since the 1980s. Throughout her career, she has consistently pushed boundaries and been characterised by constant reinvention, reflecting the evolving cultural landscape of each era.

She popularised the layered look, lace gloves, fishnet stockings, and statement accessories, leaving an unforgettable impact on the fashion trends that followed.

Kate Moss

Sarah Jessica Parker

However, the one influence that I particularly adore is Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City.As a character on the small screen, Carrie Bradshaw, portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker, transcended the boundaries of television and became an embodiment of style inspiration for fashion enthusiasts around the globe.

The character of Carrie Bradshaw, with her distinctive fashion sense, took the fashion industry by storm. From her eclectic mix of high-end designer pieces to thrift store finds, Carrie epitomised the art of mixing and matching styles with an unapologetically bold and daring attitude.

Her wardrobe became a character in itself, perfectly reflecting her vivacious persona and love for fashion as a means of self-expression.

From the timeless elegance of Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn to the boundary-pushing style of Madonna and the modern glamour of Jennifer Lopez, each icon brings a unique and captivating flair to the world of fashion.

As a fashion designer, I am continually drawing inspiration from their legacy, incorporating their unique styles into my designs while adding my creative touch.
