Let’s play dress up !

IMG-20180420-WA0070-a

Summer to me has always spelled a caviar slurry of sorts – sun-kissed skin, pristine white beaches and a closet which combines effortless style with utilitarian comfort. Travel not only opens your mind but also your heart. If the sunny California is about the sunshine and a gluten-free lifestyle, Bali resonates with boho beads and statement embroideries.
Inspired by my myriad travels over the years, I embarked on creating a collection, which was a pastiche of dainty florals, soft pastels and dazzling sequins.

Titled, A Lemon Wedge, I reimagined summery dresses which take you from a beach party to a night out in town. Adding a hint of toughness to the soft and fluid silhouettes, I also toyed with the now-trending souvenir bomber jackets. The statement exaggerated taffeta bows are having a moment right now and it was hard for me not to fall for their old world charm hook, line and sniker.

On my mood-board was a nomad, who likes to live The Good Life. She’s a bold and confident personality, who’s not averse to rocking ruffled tulle skirts and shimmying the night away in tasseled metallic skirts. Giving multiple options to mix and match, I also thought of peppering the collection with a bouquet of flouncy shirts.
Go bold or go home seems to be the mantra this season. Hence came in the colour blocked asymmetrical hemline dresses and flirty play suits. The voluminous flared skirts with nipped waistlines can also be worked in office scenario with right styling tweaks. Other highlights of this offering are  zipper shirts and knife pleat dresses, which will add fun to any party ensemble.

Don’t be shy to embrace the exaggerated sleeves and go all out and accent your ensembles with statement brooches and appliqués, which I have introduced this season. One couldn’t go wrong with the breathable mul, lace and silk in the unforgiving sun.

As you get set to pack for your Saint Tropez vacay, complete your closet with MM’s bold hues – from citrus lemons to Green Apples and from Lavender to the Millennium Pink.
A Lemon Wedge is an ode to today’s quintessential millennial, who are rule breakers and make their own style rules.

Savour this sartorial cocktail as you plan your summer vacations.

Festive fusionista

WhatsApp-Image-2017-08-03-at-11

With Raksha Bandhan and Ganpati festivities around the corner, it’s time to create a brand new closet, which is contemporary in style and Indian at the core. It’s time to steer clear of the gloomy blacks and greys and embrace a riot of colours like never before. Having toyed with Indo-Western fusion for years now – I see this fusionista dressing as the ultimate sartorial catalyst, which is fail proof. Nothing works on the Indian olive skin tone better than a pop palette of colours, shine-on bling and statement jewellery. This festive season, say hello to the now-trending cape-utta (a hybrid of cape and dupatta) and sharara pants or wide-legged, flowy trousers.

The drama exuded by a cape look is limit-less and will prove to be the ultimate weapon in your festive wardrobe.

Opt for silhouettes that accentuate your body and pick from the timeless and classic Indian textiles. A draped pre-stitched sari or a metallic lehenga are perfect traditional looks with a twist. The trousers or bottoms can make or break your ensemble. The trick is to keep them super casual. For instance, pair a salwar with a sequinned or a digital print T-shirt or gravitate towards a solid kurta style.

Dhoti pants with vibrant peplum detailings and draped tops are making their presence felt across the board. As you entertain your friends and family, make an impression in a geometrical patterned front-slit  shift dress.  Add a pair of chiffon palazzo pants to the look and you’ve nailed the ensemble.

One can’t go wrong with Baroque embroideries, which is also a major runway story internationally, what with the likes of Balmain and Gucci embracing it with great gusto. Invest in a Victorian cropped jacket and a cowl gown. All you need is a hand-embroidered shrug and you’re  good to go.Channel your inner nomad slicker in a boho skirt and team it with a cowl top. The ubiquitous Patiala salwars can be sure-shot sartorial winners when clubbed with peasant tops. Taking of tops, the cold-shoulder crop tops aren’t going out anytime soon and look sensational when teamed with handwoven lehengas.

Finish the look with a power blow-dry, a bold pouch and statement jhumkas. Pick a dramatic but minimal accessory and focus on one feature – either your eyes or the mouth. A sleek pony tail or a messy chignon can never let you down.

Style took centre stage at the French Riviera

image3

Bringing on their ‘A’ game to the mother of all red carpets, the Indian stars stood their own at Cannes 2017.
The French Riviera is host to a multitude of exciting style moments every year when the stars descend at the Cannes film festival. This year was no different as the sartorial choices of celebs grabbed reams of news print at the ten day long parade of the world’s most fashionable movie stars.
While we saw a host of International celebrities walking the red carpet, the Indian divas too stunned us with their stylish appearances. Some of my favourites at this year’s Cannes were:

1. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

An epitome of beauty and grace, Aishwarya Rai’s sartorial choices every year at Cannes grab as much eyeballs as probably a blockbuster bollywood film would. She looked stunning as she channelled her inner princess wearing a Cinderella-esque couture gown by Michael Cinco. Truly a belle of the ball, I loved her off-shoulder fitted-to-the-waist plunging neckline ballroom gown. Poker straight hair & minimal makeup completed her look.

Her choice of the gorgeous red ruffled Ralph & Russo gown for her second appearance also grabbed headlines as she completely stole the show!

2. Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone hardly ever gets it wrong. Making an appearance in a sheer wine-colored one-shouldered Marchesa gown with shimmery floral work Deepika was on the ball completing the look in her Jimmy Choos.

For her second red carpet appearance, Deepika took monotone styling to the next level. The style queen wowed all in a deep green gown by Brandon Maxwell which featured a trail and sexy thigh-high slit! Hair neatly pulled back into a textured ponytail Deepika showed off her neck tattoo in this one shoulder gown.

3. Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor is a queen at Cannes and she knows it. A constant at the Cannes red carpet, she knows how to win the game — every single time. Sonam yet again slayed the Cannes red carpet in a soft blush coloured gown by Ellie Saab. Loved her radiant look, she definitely knows how to make a statement on the red carpet year after year!

Signing off in style Sonam wore a shimmering gold Ellie Saab gown and was indeed a sight to behold!

Chic Itinerary

header-2

Summer spells lazy-yet-luxe holidays! Are you heading to your friend’s pre-wedding bash to the charming Abu Dhabi or planning a South of France getaway or thinking of soaking in the beauty of Capri islands? All of these travels entail comfort, chic and practicality. Needless to say that it’s crucial to pack your travel essentials – your trusty vanity case, swimsuit, a crochet and lace jumpsuit or a mini and of course a resort gown for the night of unapologetic theatricality.

The very mention of the festival of light brings to mind – elegant card parties, boisterous family sit-down dinners and fun late nights with friends.
